Dr. Gabriel Barnard, MD, MS, CHLCP

Gabriel Barnard, MD, MS, CHLCP, is an expert in pain medicine, pain management, Interventional Spine, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. At California Pain Medicine Center in Santa Monica, California, Dr. Barnard specializes in the diagnosis and management of all pain conditions. He is the Associate Director of Los Angeles’ premier pain medicine practice.

His clinical interests focus on complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and spine interventions for neck and low back pain, as well as joint pain (knee, shoulder, hip, etc.). His treatment modalities include spinal cord stimulation, ketamine infusions, a one-of-a-kind comprehensive interdisciplinary outpatient pain rehabilitation program, epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency ablations, and regenerative medicine with platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

Dr. Barnard completed his undergraduate studies in the Honors College at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where he was a four-year varsity soccer player. He then moved across the country to Los Angeles to pursue academic research at UCLA’s Cardiovascular Research Labs prior to attending Drexel University’s College of Medicine, where he first became interested in complex regional pain syndrome working with renowned expert Dr. Robert
Schwartzman. He subsequently returned to Los Angeles to complete his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency and pain medicine fellowship at the UCLA/Greater Los Angeles VA Hospitals.

In addition to private practice at the California Pain Medicine Center, Dr. Barnard is an attending physician in pain medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Greater Los Angeles VA Hospital, where he instructs residents and fellow physicians. He is also active in resident and medical student teaching at UCLA’s School of Medicine as a clinical assistant professor.

Dr. Barnard prides himself in providing comprehensive and compassionate care for his patients. He is active in multiple pain and spine societies, including the American Academy of Pain Medicine and the North American Spine Society, to ensure he provides state-of-the-art treatments.
